About Jokkmokk
Jokkmokk Market - one of the World's Oldest Annual Markets
Jokkmokk has been a vibrant meeting place since the early 1600s, when the first market, which brought together Sami people, settlers, fur hunters, tax collectors, and merchants, came into being.
The 420th market will be held during the first weekend of February 2025. We expect 50,000 visitors from around the world! Welcome to join us – to share our Arctic everyday life!
Experience Sami Culture
Ájtte is the premier museum for Sami culture and a specialized museum for the mountain region. At the museum, you can see exhibitions about Sami culture – about costumes and silver, religion and mythology, and how people have adapted to life in a land without roads. During summer, Jokkmokk’s Mountain Garden is an oasis by Lake Talvatis. Gently trodden paths take us through various natural environments that house the region’s flora. A truly remarkable and unique place for anyone interested in mountain flora!
Explore the Beautiful Nature
Hike through mountains and forests, paddle in crystal-clear lakes or
admire the northern lights in the dark winter sky. Jokkmokk offers an extraordinary nature experience. The magnificent Sarek National Park with its high snow-covered peaks and many glaciers, Badjelánnda with its large beautiful lakes, Stora Sjöfallet/Stuor Muorke with the wonderful mountain Áhkká and the primeval forests in Muddus/Muttos. And they are all part of the unique UNESCO World Heritage Site Laponia.
Jokkmokk - a Place of Contrasts
Jokkmokk has something to offer year-round. Come in summer and hike under the midnight sun, enjoy the autumn colors during fall, go world-class skiing in winter, and experience the magical northern lights
