I am passionate about sharing the knowledge and experiences I’ve gained during my more than 30 years here in the north in a personal way.
Want to experience Jokkmokk with as many senses as possible? Then an activity with Essence of Lapland is perfect, where especially your sense of smell and taste will be satisfied!
Eva Gunnare, food creator and cultural guide, lives in Jokkmokk and has become a well-known voice both here and there*) as knowledge about edible wild plants and berries has become increasingly popular. Since 2011, she has run her company Essence of Lapland, and besides a small production of herbal products that you can find at Arctic Deli and Sápmi Ren Vilt, she offers taste guidings, home visits, herb courses, and taste performances for couples, families, and larger groups.
In an entertaining, personal, informative, and not least flavorful way, Eva wants to share knowledge about life in the north and its nature and culture. And you will certainly leave with many ideas about what you can pick and preserve when you return home.

Year-round, you can participate in a Taste and Forest Guiding, which is a short nature and cultural walk where you’ll be treated to flavors from the forest, meadow, and mountains. The tour usually ends at Eva’s home, which is next to the Alpine Botanical Garden. In her kitchen, you’ll be served herbal tea, cookies, and more aromas and flavors while relaxing around the kitchen table. You’ll get a peek into the “treasure chamber” where filled freezers and shelves with dried herbs and berries share space with literature and her own herbal products.
Year-round, you can also join the Nature’s Forces tour. Here the focus is on healthy herbs and berries and how to harness nature’s own healing power. Song has a strong influence in Eva’s life, and during this tour, her songs also convey power and healing.
For larger groups, Eva’s Taste Performance concept might be of interest. It’s a mix of lecture, song performance, tasting, and photo presentation. Suitable as a conference activity or as entertainment and appetizer before dinner.
*) Together with Naturmorgon on P1, she has created the podcast series Nature’s Flavors. She has appeared on Meny on P1 and in several regional, national, and international features. She collaborates with many other activity and food companies in Norrbotten, and her activities are represented at Arctic Bath, Treehotel, and more.
